Adorama has a special on these through Friday (although they are sold out) for $99. They are currently $219 at B&H. From what I can tell these are on par or better than the Spyder 2.
This is not the 'Pro Version' but still seems to be a good deal. I'm considering pulling the tigger.
Anyone have additional thoughts or advice?

I have and use OPTIX XR Pro. Most reviewers rate it as essentially equal to the Gretag Macbeth Eye One Display 2 - both are top end screen calibration setups.
The standard OPTIX XR software does lack some higher end options (ability to calibrate to D illuminants rather than temperatures, ability to build table based profiles from 99 patches, ability to evaluate profiles once made), but most people won't miss these options. If you miss the Pro software you can buy the Pro software separately.
For US$99, it's a great price just for the colorimeter, let alone the basic software as well. It's all most people will want, and a significant leap up from the likes of a low end Spyder or Huey.

Just so it's clear, the Optix XR contains the SAME hardware as the Optix XR PRO.
The only difference is the software (which can be upgraded with only a serial number key).
I JUST bought this for $120 on eBay. This is a very good deal!

cheezerman is correct - though X-Rite don't sell upgrade keys for the software. You have to buy the Pro software separately - see this FAQ.
A possible reason for this is to do with the merger of X-Rite (who own Monaco) and GretagMacbeth. The list of products to be discontinued includes all OPTIX XR products. Going forward, it looks as if the merged company will continue to offer the Eye One Display 2 as their screen calibration solution.
I wouldn't be surprised if a future software upgrade will allow existing OPTIX XR users to buy the Gretag Macbeth software, to which they will add support for the OPTIX XR colorimeter added. Even if not, there's a commitment to support for three years from the date of discontinuation - see here. It was clear that either OPTIX XR or Eye One Display 2 was going to be discontinued.
I wouldn't worry excessively about it. There's already software out there that has support for multiple hardware (indeed OPTIX XR Pro supports more than just the OPTIX XR colorimeter). Further OPTIX XR works perfectly well anyway - at US$99 it's a bargain.
